Kindergarten Grouchy Ladybugs

We studied the book and illustrations of Eric Carle for this lesson.  This is a personal favorite of mine.  The book is a great a learning tool in students who are working on sharing and how to work together!  In the end the students get to choose whether they want their ladybugs to be grouchy or happy.  I love both choices!

Fifth Grade African Djembe's

A Djembe is a hand drum.  We made ours by combining two styrofoam cups and using paper mache to cover the cups.  Then the students painted them white and used sharpies of multiple colors to add African shapes, lines and patterns to the outside.  One of the insides is filled with miscellaneous items in order to make them rattle, at the same time the other end is still a drum.

Third Grade Elephants

Are these African Elephants, not the most amazing thing ever!!
The Art students studied how to break down animal drawings in to basic shapes and then combine them into realistic drawings.  We studied Kente cloth colors and their meaning for the borders.

First Grade Tigers

The first grade Art students were very busy creating these fierce looking tigers, along with learning how to use space and composition.  We added some leaves to give the illusion that our tigers are "hiding" and watching their prey.

Kindergarten Monkeys

Again, this project was a continuation of our study of Africa.

We also added the Savannah flowers and leaves for extra color!

2nd Grade Clay, African Cameroon Lizards

The whole school has been studying Art and culture from the continent of Africa, after second grade has already completed a Giraffe drawing, they tackled the task of constructing clay lizards.  I love  the awesome paint and color choices!
