These sunflowers had many steps before they became the gorgeous flowers you see in the pictures.
First we sponge painted with tints and shades of orange for the petals. Then we had to create and cut out and assemble the flower heads. Secondly, the leaves and stem were created and cut and assembled. Lastly, we added paint to give the green a little more texture.
Fall leaves using concentric circles. The 5th graders worked hard at learning how to use a compass for this lesson. We also used only warm colors for our leaves and cool colors for the background.
Each year these awesome firetrucks always seem to return as a favorite of the Kinder Art classes. The recycled egg carton that becomes the most fun red firetruck!
We studied the book and illustrations of Eric Carle for this lesson. This is a personal favorite of mine. The book is a great a learning tool in students who are working on sharing and how to work together! In the end the students get to choose whether they want their ladybugs to be grouchy or happy. I love both choices!
A Djembe is a hand drum. We made ours by combining two styrofoam cups and using paper mache to cover the cups. Then the students painted them white and used sharpies of multiple colors to add African shapes, lines and patterns to the outside. One of the insides is filled with miscellaneous items in order to make them rattle, at the same time the other end is still a drum.
Are these African Elephants, not the most amazing thing ever!!
The Art students studied how to break down animal drawings in to basic shapes and then combine them into realistic drawings. We studied Kente cloth colors and their meaning for the borders.
The first grade Art students were very busy creating these fierce looking tigers, along with learning how to use space and composition. We added some leaves to give the illusion that our tigers are "hiding" and watching their prey.
The whole school has been studying Art and culture from the continent of Africa, after second grade has already completed a Giraffe drawing, they tackled the task of constructing clay lizards. I love the awesome paint and color choices!
